Want to be involved?

 MNCORA is seeking people to serve on MNCORA's Advisory Board. When issues come up affecting our pension we frequently seek feedback from the Advisory Board.  From our by-laws Article VIII Advisory Board Section 2. Duties of the Advisory Board.  There are no physical meetings of the Advisory Board. On occasion requests for information, feedback and advice will be sent to the Advisory Board to better inform MNCORA on issues important to members. Advisory Board members will provide such information, feedback and advice as needed. If interested email MNCORA@protonmail.com  MNCORA@protonmail.com You must be a retiree in the PERA Correctional Plan, a current member or a former member who is vested in the plan. Let us know your name and where you worked or are working at. 

MN Rep Scott adds her name to HF 3902!

MN Representative Scott has added her name to author  HF 3902 a bill to exempt local corrections, police and fire, state patrol and state corrections pensions from State income tax on their pensions! She joins Representatives   Demuth  ;  O'Driscoll  ;  Heinrich  in support of this legislation as well as Senators  Howe  ;  Duckworth  ;  Gazelka  ;  Rosen  ;  Ingebrigtsen  supporting the Senate File SF 3538 in the Senate.  MNCORA thanks these legislators for their support!

Executive Board Meeting April 19, 2022

  The MNCORA Executive Board will be meeting April 19th at 11 AM. Below is the Agenda. April PERA Meeting and Pension update

  A lot has changed very recently.  A Bill called the " Delete everything Amendment " was introduced.  Of note is that there was a proposed reduction in employee contributions to the pensions for every group EXCEPT PERA Correctional and the PERA General Plan. PERA Executive Director Doug Anderson then put out a  Legislative Update memo  prior to the meeting. In it he stated, "The exclusion of the General Plan from the bill has caused concerns." This emphasizes again why we need a PERA Correctional seat on the PERA Board.  I called him and we had several productive conversations.  My concern as MNCORA President was that every other pension plan was being considered for a reduction in employee contribution except PERA Correctional!  At the meeting Doug Anderson then added PERA Correctional to the list.  The following was sent to every Minnesota State Senator and Representative. MNCORA encourages you to contact them expressing your support! Dear Minnesota State Legislators,    The  Minnesota Correctional Officer Retirement Association  (MNCORA) supports the following Bills before you that we believe will make life better for retired Minnesota Correctional Officers:  SF 2838 & HF 2788 -If enacted would exempt Social Security from Minnesota State income Tax  SF 3538 & HF 3902  – if passed would provide relief from Minnesota State Income Tax for the following pensions; Police and Fire, Local Government Correctional Plan, State Patrol and State Correctional Officers.  SF 4294 & HF 4306 - If passed would increase the COLA’s and reduce employee contributions for most  Minnesota State Retirement System plans, Public Employees Retirement Association plans, Teachers Retirement Association, Minnesota state higher education individual retirement account plan, and St. Paul Teachers Re

Bill to raise COLA (on all but PERA Correctional)

There is currently a Bill, HF 4306 to raise the COLA on all Pensions to 2.5% except the PERA Correctional and to lower all employee contributions into the plans, including PERA Correctional. It would reduce the PERA Correctional employee contribution to 4.83%, essentially a one percent raise. It also calls to add a Billion Dollars total to all of the plans.
