MNCORA President Wade Laszlo just met with House Leader Niska to get the ball rolling on a new bill to get a CO seat on the PERA Board! We will keep you posted as to the progress.

Currently there's an MSRS Correctional Plan Eligibility Work Group   looking at who and should and should not be in the MSRS (State) Correctional Plan. The recommendations are due to the LCPR by January 10, 2025.  As always there's a letter citing MAPE and Teamsters desire to add Probation Officers to both the MSRS and PERA Correctional Plans . Because why wouldn't they try this again out of our sight? Last year of course there was the Bill to add Dispatch to our Correctional Plan, and Rep. Wolgamott (the author) stated the issue was not dead. We fully expect another attempt this year. The last line of MAPE's letter says it all: This upcoming session will be challenging with possibly probation and dispatch both making a run at our pension. MNCORA will be watching. Governor Walz signed into law the Pension Omnibus Bill yesterday, May 15. It was a busy year for MNCORA and PERA Correctional Plan Legislation. MNCORA with your help was able to stave off yet another attempt to add dispatchers to our pension. Your petitions, calls and thousands of cards mailed to legislators was a success.  Sadly we are not out of the woods. Rep. Wolgamott and Rep. Her both told MNCORA that the bill to add dispatch to our pension wouldn't be added to this year's Pension Omnibus Bill, but did not say the issue was dead for next session.  MNCORA had a Bill to add a Correctional Officer to the PERA Board authored by Representatives Niska , Scott and Novotny  on the House side, and a companion Bill in the Senate by Senators Bahr , Abeler and eventually Frentz .   HF 4342  is a reality. This Bill will add a new seat to the PERA Executive Board dedicated to a Correctional Officer. This has been a long time in the works and MNCORA thanks Representative Niska and Scott for Authoring it in the House and LCPR Executive Director Susan Lenczewski for her assistance writing the Bill. We are currently reaching out to Senators for a Senate Companion Author and will keep you posted. This morning MNCORA President Wade Laszlo had coffee with Minnesota State Rep. Niska. He will be working with the LCPR to draft language for a Bill adding a CO seat to the PERA Board.  The House isn't in session until February. That being said it is extremely important for everyone to contact their State Representatives and Senators asking them to support that legislation when it happens.
