Hennepin County Retiree Insurance-final word

I contacted BRI by phone and they said Hennepin County HR was handling retiree enrollment. I then called HR and they said current employees must actively enroll, but retirees will automatically be enrolled unless they are making changes. So if you're not changing coverage according to them you don't have to do a thing.

Hennepin County Health Insurance Update

I just received my letter from BRI, the company that handles retiree (COBRA) health insurance for Hennepin County. According to the letter if I am making no changes to my plan " No changes? You do not need to do anything. " This is not what Hennepin County HR told me. I will call BRI after the Holiday weekend and confirm. See the letter below:

Happy Thanksgiving!

Health Insurance Alert Hennepin County Retirees!

I received a call today from a former co-worker. She asked if I was getting the Hennepin County Health Insurance as a retiree. I said yes. She asked if I knew I had to renew during open enrollment by December 6th or I'd be cancelled. I did not. I called Hennepin County Human Resources 612 348-7855.  I was informed that Hennepin County had changed vendors for health insurance and now annual renewal was to be 'affirmative enrollment' to continue. She said letters would be going out in the next week or two. That's not a lot of time! Watch your mail for the Health Insurance enrollment and send it back ASAP! Do not miss it and lose your insurance. In the past enrollment was automatic. (This will be cross posted to the Detention Home Blog ) *Update 11/17/22 The county is changing from Preferred One to UMR Choice Plus Network. Open enrollment is from Nov 17 to Dec 6th. If you're on the County Ins still you must enroll to stay insured. Letters are supposed to be going out!

Executive Board meeting

MNCORA had a brief Executive Board meeting today. There will be no new actions until after the midterm elections and the new legislature is seated. During the midterms please keep on mind the legislators that were favorable to the PERA Correctional plan.  See our previous blog post, " Credit where credit is due ", for those names.
